Suleiman der Prächtige mit seiner 30.000 Mann starken Armada greift die 500 belagerten Ritter des Johanniterordens und das verteidigende Volk Maltas an, mit dem ausdrücklichen Ziel, sie auszulöschen und den Verlauf der europäischen Geschichte für immer zu verändern... 1565, St. Elmo's Pay ist ein asymmetrisches, wettbewerbsorientiertes, taktisches Kartenspiel und Nachfolger des preisgekrönten Spiels 1066, Tears to Many Mothers, mit dem es vollständig kompatibel ist. Jeder Spieler, entweder als Osmanische Türken oder Ritter des Johanniterordens, muss Truppen und Ressourcen mobilisieren, um die verschiedenen Hindernisse auf ihrem Weg zu überwinden, bevor die beiden Armeen in einer epischen Belagerung an drei Fronten auf der kleinen Insel Malta: Birgu, Senglea und der zum Scheitern verurteilten Festung St. Elmo aufeinandertreffen. Jede schöne Karte im Spiel ist von einer realen Person oder einem Ereignis aus der Zeit inspiriert. Mit einem Fokus auf schnelles, taktisches Spiel und einer thematischen Neuinterpretation der Ereignisse der Zeit ist das Spiel nicht sammelbar und es ist kein Deckbau erforderlich. Jeder Spieler nimmt einfach sein Deck und mischt es, dann beginnt das Spiel. Hinweis zum Titel: Als die kleine Festung St. Elmo schließlich nach einer unermüdlichen Demonstration von Stärke in die Hände der Türken fiel, massakrierten sie die Körper der Ritter und ließen die Leichname über die Bucht zu den verbleibenden zwei Festungen treiben, um sie davon abzuhalten, weiter zu widerstehen, aus Angst, das gleiche Schicksal zu erleiden. Stattdessen entschieden sich die maltesischen Streitkräfte, mit 'dem Geist von St. Elmo' zu kämpfen. Als sie schließlich das Blatt gegen die Türken wendeten und sie vertrieben, rief das Volk Maltas 'St. Elmo's Pay' - ein Ausdruck, den sie bis heute verwenden, um 'keine Gnade' zu bedeuten. —Beschreibung des Verlegers
