Der vorherige Kaiser wurde von seiner eigenen Prätorianergarde getötet und hat ein Machtvakuum hinterlassen, das die mächtigen Familien in Rom zu füllen versuchen. Bist du bereit, selbst die Purpur zu tragen und den stressigen Job als Kaiser zu übernehmen? Wenn du versagst, sind die anderen Familien bereit, im Handumdrehen die Kontrolle zu übernehmen. Während sie auf deinen Untergang warten, werden sie nicht zögern, dich hinterrücks zu erstechen oder dich so weit wie möglich zu untergraben. Doch ihr müsst alle zusammenarbeiten, denn der Fall des Römischen Reiches rückt näher. Donning the Purple ist ein asymmetrisches King-of-the-Hill-Spiel mit einem Hauch von Arbeiterplatzierung. Jeder Spieler führt eine mächtige Familie im antiken Rom und versucht, in 4 Runden die meisten Siegpunkte zu sammeln. Wenn ein Familienmitglied Kaiser wird und es schafft, die Position zu halten, kann er viele Punkte verdienen. Er wird jedoch auch zum Ziel der anderen Spieler, die versuchen werden, ihn zu stürzen und selbst der neue Kaiser zu werden.
