Beschreibung

Evil High Priest ist ein Worker-Placement-Spiel, in dem die Spieler die Rolle von Priestern einer lovecraftianischen Entität übernehmen. Alle Spieler verehren denselben Großen Alten, sind jedoch entschieden keine Verbündeten. Wenn sie ihren Großen Alten erwecken, entscheidet er, welcher von ihnen der beste ist (basierend auf Siegpunkten) und ernennt nur diesen Priester zum Hochpriester, der gewinnt.

Das Spiel enthält Karten, Pappmarken und mehrere verschiedene Spielbretter - jeder Spieler hat ein inneres Heiligtum sowie ein Priesterbrett, um seine Sekte zu verwalten. Darüber hinaus gibt es ein Stadtbrett, das das Lovecraft-Land repräsentiert; ein Ritualbrett, das magische Zauber darstellt; und ein Kultbrett, das den Großen Alten repräsentiert, den Sie zu befreien versuchen.

Das Spiel wird in Aktionsphasen durchgeführt. Die Spieler wechseln sich ab, ihre Kultisten zu bewegen, um verschiedene Standorte auf den verschiedenen Brettern zu aktivieren, Ressourcen zu sammeln, Monster zu beschwören, Ältere Zeichen zu zerbrechen und Ermittlerraids zu starten (die alle Spieler angreifen). Wenn alle Spieler keine Kultisten mehr haben, endet die Aktionsphase und die Spieler holen ihre Kultisten zurück, wodurch die Standorte auf dem Brett für die nächste Aktionsphase freigegeben werden. Der Sieg wird bestimmt, wenn das letzte Ältere Zeichen, das Ihren Großen Alten blockiert, zerbrochen wird, und zu diesem Zeitpunkt zählen alle Punkte. Verschiedene Ressourcen haben unterschiedliche Werte, aber die wertvollsten sind die Älteren Zeichen.

Der Antrieb des Spiels ist das Bedürfnis des Spielers, mehr Kultisten zu rekrutieren und mehr Ressourcen zu sammeln, im Gleichgewicht mit dem Bedürfnis, Ältere Zeichen zu zerbrechen und sich gegen die tödlichen Ermittlerraids zu schützen. Ungewöhnlich unter Worker-Placement-Spielen kann das Kultbrett zwischen den Spielen ausgetauscht werden, um ein anderes Erlebnis zu bieten. Das Cthulhu-Kultbrett spielt sich nicht wie das Schwarze Ziegen-Kultbrett und erfordert unterschiedliche Taktiken und Planung.
