Beschreibung

Als sich herausstellte, dass Reisen mit Überlichtgeschwindigkeit für jede Lebensform tödlich waren, schickten die Menschen stattdessen ihre Erfindungen aus, um die Galaxie zu erkunden - kolossale Fabrikschiffe, die in der Lage sind, automatisierte Extraktoren zu bauen und einzusetzen. Diese Schiffe bohrten, schürften und transportierten Rohmineralien aus fernen Planetensystemen zurück zur Erde. Bald wurden Hunderte von Sternensystemen besucht und ihre Planeten bis zu ihren Kernen durchbohrt und von wertvollen Ressourcen befreit. In kürzester Zeit monopolisierten zwei Unternehmen das Bergbaugeschäft in der Galaxie, aber mit unzähligen Systemen zu erschließen, blieben sie in einem Zustand des angespannten Friedens - ein Frieden, der kurz davor stand, durch eine automatisierte Analyse von Berichten aus einem vor vielen Jahrzehnten abgebauten System, das etwas Seltsames ergab, gebrochen zu werden, was zur Entdeckung von... Metallum führte.

Diese neue Substanz, die das Versprechen interstellarer Reisen für lebende Organismen zu tragen scheint, wird Konflikte hervorrufen. Die Erdenregierung greift sofort ein und beansprucht im Namen des "Wohls der Menschheit" das Eigentum an dem System, aber es ist klar, dass eines der beiden Unternehmen die exklusiven Rechte zur Extraktion von Metallum erhalten wird - und die riesigen Gewinne, die damit verbunden sind. Die Spannung steigt sofort. Ein offener Unternehmenskrieg wird nur durch das Versprechen vermieden, die Bergbaurechte an das Unternehmen zu vergeben, das die effizienteste Bergbauinfrastruktur auf den Planeten entwickeln wird. Vorfälle sind unvermeidlich mit alten Anlagen, die verwendet werden, um feindliche Extraktoren zu zerstören, da klar ist, dass die Erdenregierung ihre Zuschüsse auf der Grundlage der Metallum-Extraktionsraten jedes Unternehmens vergeben wird, bevor sie schließlich die exklusiven Bergbaurechte an eines von ihnen vergibt. Die besten Piloten jeder Corporation setzen sich hinter ihre Konsolen, während sich ihre Fabrikschiffe dem System nähern, wobei die Produktion von Extraktoren auf Maximum eingestellt ist.

Metallum ist ein Strategiespiel für zwei Spieler, die die Rollen von Unternehmenspiloten übernehmen, die damit beauftragt sind, ihre Fabrikschiffe zu steuern, um ein effizienteres Bergbaunetzwerk auf den Planeten des Systems zu errichten als ihr Gegner. Jede Runde besteht aus drei Hauptphasen:

Programmierung: Die Spieler erstellen gleichzeitig ein Programm, indem sie puzzleartige Unterroutinen zusammenstellen, die verschiedene Systeme auf dem Fabrikschiff aktivieren (Motoren zum Bewegen, Produktion zum Bereitstellen von Extraktoren usw.). Einige der leistungsstärkeren Unterroutinen benötigen mehr Zeit zur Ausführung und behindern daher Ihre Fähigkeit, auf die Züge des anderen Spielers zu reagieren - und sie könnten Sie sogar daran hindern, andere Schiffs-systeme zu aktivieren.
Aktion: Die Spieler führen die während der Programmierphase erstellten Programme aus. Da die Reihenfolge der Ausführung der Unterroutinen vom Spieler festgelegt wird, kann dasselbe Programm zu sehr unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen führen, was zu vielen interessanten taktischen Entscheidungen führt. Während dieser Phase werden auch neue Extraktoren auf den Planeten des Systems bereitgestellt.
Gewinne: Die Spieler verdienen Credits für die Planeten, auf denen sie ihre Extraktoren haben, je nachdem, wer mehr von ihnen hat.

Nach neun Runden wird der Pilot, der die meisten Credits für seine Corporation verdient hat, zum Sieger erklärt. Werden Sie in der Lage sein, die Planeten des Systems mit einem Netzwerk Ihrer Extraktoren zu bedecken und gleichzeitig die Pläne Ihres Gegners zu stören? Obwohl der Konflikt offiziell nur wirtschaftlicher Natur ist, muss der erfolgreiche Pilot wissen, wann er die Bergbauinfrastruktur eines Rivalen angreifen oder eine "leichte Modifikation" daran vornehmen muss. Wenn alles gesagt und getan ist, wird sich niemand an die Einzelheiten des Kampfes erinnern - nur an den Namen des größten Piloten in der Geschichte der Galaxie.
