Race for the Galaxy ist ein Spiel, das in einer fernen Zukunft spielt, in dem 2 bis 4 Spieler gegeneinander antreten, um ein Sternenimperium aufzubauen und zu erweitern. Das gesamte Spiel besteht aus einem Kartensatz, der technologische Entwicklungen und zu kolonialisierende Planeten darstellt. Die Karten, und hier ist der Hinweis auf San Juan, werden auch als "Münzen" und als Produktionsgüter der verschiedenen Planeten verwendet.
