Beschreibung

Die Val Jean war ein kleines Raider-Schiff, das in den frühen 2370er Jahren von den Maquis betrieben wurde. Die Impulsantriebe der Val Jean wurden ursprünglich 2332 gebaut.

Im Jahr 2371, unter dem Kommando von Chakotay, wurde die Val Jean von dem cardassianischen Kriegsschiff Vetar, dem Flaggschiff von Gul Evek, verfolgt. Chakotay befahl dem Schiff, in die Badlands zu fahren, um den Cardassianern zu entkommen.

Nachdem sie der Verfolgung entkommen waren, wurde die Val Jean von einem kohärenten Tetryonstrahl gescannt und vom Hüter in den Delta-Quadranten transportiert. Dort wurde die Crew entführt und medizinischen Tests unterzogen, um ihre biologische Kompatibilität mit dem Hüter zu bestimmen. Ein Crewmitglied, Chefingenieurin B'Elanna Torres, wurde von den anderen getrennt und zur Oberfläche des Heimatplaneten Ocampa geschickt.

Um sein vermisstes Crewmitglied zu retten, schloss sich Chakotay widerwillig mit der Sternenflottenkapitänin Kathryn Janeway der USS Voyager zusammen, die geschickt worden war, um ihn zu fangen, aber ebenfalls in den Delta-Quadranten gezogen worden war. Die Zusammenarbeit war erfolgreich, und sowohl Torres als auch das Besatzungsmitglied der Voyager, Harry Kim, wurden gerettet.
