An Loc, 1972 recreates the action of the siege that, although little known, prolonged the life of South Vietnam as an independent nation. In 1972, North Vietnam launched the massive “Easter Offensive” hoping to reach Saigon, but first had to capture the provincial capital of An Loc. With large quantities of armored vehicles and artillery and a 3 to 1 infantry force ratio, the battle was expected to be brief; instead, massive air support turned the clash into a 66-day siege, considered the last victory of the ARVN.
This elegant wargame by designer Arrigo Velicogna has received excellent reviews for its operational point system that captures the essence of asymmetric warfare between two conventional but very different armies. Using regiment and battalion units, air power, artillery, and tanks, players manage the increasing tempo of operations to simulate the battle for An Loc and the ARVN relief attempt. The game features T-54 tanks, B-52 bombers, paratroopers, and saboteurs.
The game includes 100 mounted and pre-cut 1/2" counters, a color map measuring 11" x 17", and rules with tables.
