Four Lost Battles is a quadruple tactical wargame of the Dresden Campaign (August-September 1813). It includes four 22x17 inch maps with 560 double-sided units, 48 pages of rulebooks with historical analysis and designer notes, plus 4 player aids and 2 card decks for managing troop deployments and status.
The game covers four battles: Grossbeeren (towards Berlin, 23 August), Katzbach (a perilous passage, 26 August), Kulm (mountain battle, 29-30 August) and Dennewitz (collapse in the north, 6 September).
After defeats at Grossgörschen and Bautzen, the King of Prussia and the Prince of Sweden agreed on an Allied strategy to avoid Napoleon on the battlefield and fight only his subordinates. During the Dresden period, Napoleon saw his chances for victory dwindle over two weeks of four consecutive battles, all fought by his generals, demonstrating the effect of "Fabian strategy". The series is part of OSG's "Library of Napoleonic Battles" with scale 480m/hex, 1 hour per turn, 500-800 men per piece.
