Description Description

FORTIFICATIONS: GOTHIC LINE [Fortification missions with German alpine enemies]

The Gothic Line was an important strategic German defensive line along northern Italy, and the last line of defense used by retreating German forces in the final phases of the war, with over one million soldiers in total in the British 8th Army and the American 5th Army facing the German 10th and 14th Armies.

The Gothic Line itself was a series of multilayered defensive positions, built using captured and enslaved labor, including machine gun nests, casemates, bunkers, observation posts, and artillery positions.

The campaign to finally break through the Gothic Line required over ten months of Allied efforts, although it was briefly penetrated during the Battle of Rimini (presented as a separate battle pack).
