After the tide turned against the Axis and civil war broke out in Italy following the 1943 Armistice of Cassibile, brave civilians began their uprising against the tyranny of former fascist government forces and German invaders. Amid much chaos and confusion, often fighting on multiple fronts, Italian civilian resistance groups courageously brought the fight to their enemies, laying ambushes and harassing them, making full use of their knowledge of the terrain to evade and escape after striking, supported by the local population.
