THE CHARGE OF THE SAVOIA CAVALLERIA [Italian cavalry soldiers against Soviet enemies] The Charge of the Savoia Cavalleria at Izbushensky Khutor (hamlet) in the Volga region was a clash between the 3rd Italian cavalry regiment "Savoia Cavalleria" and the 812th Soviet Siberian infantry regiment in August 1942. Although a minor episode in the broader European theater, the Charge of the Savoia Cavalleria holds historical importance as one of the last great cavalry charges in military history, and its fearless actions had great propaganda resonance throughout Italy.
