Opis

1989: Dawn of Freedom to ekscytująca, szybka gra symulująca koniec zimnej wojny w 1989 roku. W tym niesamowitym roku seria rewolucji demokratycznych zakończyła 40-letnie imperium sowieckie w Europie Wschodniej. 1989 symuluje polityczne, społeczne i ekonomiczne aspekty tych rewolucji, używając systemu opartego na kartach, podobnego do Twilight Struggle. Jeden gracz gra jako Komunista. Na początku gry ma on niekwestionowaną władzę w sześciu krajach Układu Warszawskiego. Ale na horyzoncie pojawiają się złowrogie chmury. Nowy przywódca w Moskwie ogłosił, że sowieckie czołgi nie będą już wspierać chwiejnych rządów komunistycznych. Gospodarki, po dziesięcioleciach centralnego planowania i stagnacji, osiągnęły różne etapy kryzysu. W kościołach i wśród studentów oraz ich profesorów pojawiły się ruchy dysydenckie, które zyskały na sile. Od tłumienia dissentu po oferowanie ustępstw, gracz komunistyczny będzie musiał wykorzystać różnorodne strategie w walce o utrzymanie swojego imperium. Drugi gracz gra jako Demokrata. Na początku 1989 roku, za żelazną kurtyną, nikt nie uważa rewolucji za możliwą. Celem dysydentów jest stworzenie społeczeństwa obywatelskiego poza kontrolą reżimów komunistycznych. Po ich stronie są studenci, którzy są zafascynowani stylem i popkulturą zachodu, oraz Kościół. Przeciwko nim stoi ogromny aparat państwa komunistycznego. Ich wyzwaniem jest przekonanie robotników, którzy stanowią większość społeczeństwa, do przyłączenia się do ich sprawy.
