Beschreibung

Hearts and Minds, Dritte Edition ist ein unkomplizierter Ansatz für einen sehr komplizierten Konflikt. Acht Szenarien führen die Spieler in das Engagement der USA in Südostasien ein, einschließlich eines Szenarios nach dem Rückzug der USA aus Vietnam, einem vollständigen Kampagnenszenario sowie einer hohen Solitärfähigkeit. Die Spieler schätzen die Möglichkeit, in jedem Jahr des Krieges zu beginnen, das sie wünschen, und bis zum Ende eines anderen Jahres des Krieges zu kämpfen. Das Spiel bietet einen umfassenden historischen Ansatz mit Mechaniken, die Guerillakrieg, Differenzierung von Fraktionen, politische Turbulenzen und Vorteile für Veteranen umfassen. Dieses Design wurde bereits als erfolgreiches Lehrmittel verwendet. Dies ist ein kartengetriebenes, gebietsbasierendes Design mit niedriger Zählerdichte und einem stark vereinfachten Kampfsystem. Jedes Szenario repräsentiert ein Jahr, und die Spieler haben die Flexibilität, in jedem Jahr des Krieges zu beginnen und in jedem späteren Jahr des Krieges zu enden. Die Spieler wählen entweder die Alliierten (USA, ARVN, Kambodschaner und Laoten) oder die Kommunisten (NVA, VC, Kambodschaner und Laoten). Die Spieler engagieren sich im Guerillakrieg – VC-Einheiten bleiben verborgen, bis sie engagiert werden. VC-Einheiten können einfache Einheiten oder verstärkte Einheiten oder einfach falsche Informationen sein. Wenn festgestellt wird, dass es sich um falsche Informationen handelt, würfeln die Spieler auf dem Bush-Ereignistabelle, die Ereignisse von der Entdeckung chinesischer Truppen bis zur Ankunft von USO-Shows mit John Wayne und Bob Hope umfasst. Diese Edition beinhaltet die Verwendung von drei Kartendecks, einem roten Deck (kommunistisch), einem blauen Deck (alliiert) und einem schwarzen Deck (austauschbar). Vor jedem Spiel wird die Hälfte des schwarzen Decks in jedes der roten und blauen Decks gemischt, um sicherzustellen, dass jedes Mal ein anderes Spiel gespielt wird. Die Karten geben die Menge an RPs (Ressourcenpunkten) an, die ausgegeben oder angespart werden können, eine historische Situation und deren Spieleffekte. Bestimmte Karten sind jahresspezifisch. Innerhalb jedes roten und blauen Decks gibt es eine Anzahl von Kampagnenkarten, die von jedem Spieler gewählt werden können und erhöhte Fähigkeiten ermöglichen, jedoch nur in einem vorher festgelegten Bereich. Das Spiel ignoriert nicht die politischen Auswirkungen. Kartenevents decken Massenproteste in den USA ab und, was noch wichtiger ist, die Instabilität der südvietnamesischen Regierung. Der alliierte Spieler kontrolliert mehr Feuerkraft, muss jedoch auf einem Drahtseil zwischen US- und ARVN-Verlusten (südvietnamesisch) balancieren. Zu viele US-Verluste führen zu einem schnellen Anstieg der kommunistischen Moral. Zu viele ARVN-Verluste führen zu einem Putsch, der erhebliche strategische Vorteile für den kommunistischen Spieler hat. Während in Kambodscha und Laos bedeutet die Zerstörung aller Regierungsstreitkräfte den Sturz dieser Regierungen. Im gesamten Spiel ringen beide Seiten um die „Hearts and Minds“ in jeder Provinz. Politische Kontrolle bestimmt die Verfügbarkeit und Expansion des VC-Einflusses. Hearts and Minds, Dritte Edition bietet den Spielern ein leichter zu befolgendes Regelbuch mit einfacheren Siegbedingungen. Ebenfalls enthalten: getestete Solitärregeln und eine separate Solitärspielhilfe; eine premium montierte Karte, die alle notwendigen Diagramme zum Spielen des Spiels enthält; ein vollwertiges Poker-Qualitätskartendeck; Standardspielwürfel und einen neuen künstlerischen Ansatz für fraktionale Einheiten.
