Beschreibung

In Pax Pamir übernehmen die Spieler die Rolle von afghanischen Führern des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts, die versuchen, einen neuen Staat nach dem Zusammenbruch des Durrani-Imperiums zu bilden. Westliche Geschichtsschreibungen nennen diese Periode oft "Das große Spiel", wegen der Rolle, die die Europäer spielten, die versuchten, Zentralasien als Schauplatz für ihre eigenen Rivalitäten zu nutzen. In diesem Spiel werden diese Imperien ausschließlich aus der Perspektive der Afghanen betrachtet, die versuchten, die einmischenden Ferengi (Ausländer) zu ihren eigenen Zwecken zu manipulieren.

In Bezug auf das Gameplay ist Pax Pamir ein ziemlich einfacher Tableau-Bauer. Die Spieler verbringen die meiste Zeit ihrer Züge damit, Karten von einem zentralen Markt zu kaufen und diese Karten dann in einer einzigen Reihe vor sich zu spielen, die als Hof bezeichnet wird. Das Spielen von Karten fügt Einheiten zur Karte des Spiels hinzu und gewährt Zugang zu zusätzlichen Aktionen, die ergriffen werden können, um andere Spieler zu stören und den Verlauf des Spiels zu beeinflussen. Dieser letzte Punkt ist erwähnenswert. Obwohl jeder seine eigene Kartenreihe aufbaut, bietet das Spiel viele Möglichkeiten für die Spieler, direkt und indirekt miteinander zu interagieren.

Um zu überleben, organisieren sich die Spieler in Koalitionen. Im Laufe des Spiels wird die Dominanz der verschiedenen Koalitionen von den Spielern bewertet, wenn eine spezielle Karte, die als "Dominanzprüfung" bezeichnet wird, gelöst wird. Wenn eine einzige Koalition während einer dieser Prüfungen einen entscheidenden Vorteil hat, erhalten die Spieler, die dieser Koalition treu sind, Siegpunkte basierend auf ihrem Einfluss in ihrer Koalition. Wenn Afghanistan während einer dieser Prüfungen jedoch fragmentiert bleibt, erhalten die Spieler stattdessen Siegpunkte basierend auf ihrer persönlichen Machtbasis.

Nach jeder Dominanzprüfung wird der Sieg überprüft und das Spiel wird teilweise zurückgesetzt, was den Spielern einen neuen Versuch bietet, ihre Ambitionen zu verwirklichen. Das Spiel endet, wenn ein einzelner Spieler in der Lage ist, einen Vorsprung von vier oder mehr Siegpunkten zu erreichen oder nachdem die vierte und letzte Dominanzprüfung gelöst wurde.
