Description Description

Uncover the secrets that teem beneath the surface of your happy home...

Suburban Consumption of the Monstrous is an anthology of American freeform live action horror roleplaying games written by game designer Banana Chan and designer and illustrator Sadia Bies, using themes of food and consumption to explore horror in suburban environments.

Discover what lurks in the shadows, growing and festering...

Featuring solo games as well as larps for up to and more than four players, the tone of Suburban Consumption of the Monstrous ranges from dark comedy to cosmic and existential horror, with plenty of unhealthy family dynamics, and feeling trapped in ordinary homes turned sinister houses of horror. Banana has described the anthology as being “a collection of stuff that I wanted to do in other games, but is too creepy and intense for the mass market”, which makes it a perfect fit for horror RPG publisher Pelgrane Press.

Big fans of horror media, designers Banana and Sadia have drawn inspiration from movies We Are What We Are (2013), Coherence (2013), The Invitation (2015), Get Out (2017), and Hereditary (2018), as well as TV shows like Hannibal (2013), Channel Zero (2016), and Sharp Objects (2018). The 2016 novel and 2020 movie I’m Thinking of Ending Things, French folk tale Bluebeard, and Jean-Paul Sartre's 1944 play No Exit, also provided inspiration for some of the games.

Are you still human when all pretense is gone? It's time to find out...
